Greg Street, who goes by Ghostcrawler on the WoW forums, told Eurogamer that iOS devices and mobile MMO gaming are certainly a possibility for his studio. ‘Everyone I know here has an iPhone or an iPad so we’re huge fans of the hardware,’ he told the gaming site, before adding ‘If we could make the right game changes to make that work, it’s something we’d be interested in. It’s not something you’re going to see in the next week or two, but it’s the kind of thing we’re always looking at.’
WOW FOR CONSOLES
While the prospect of mobile MMO gaming as explored by Blizzard is extremely promising, the publication once again probed at why World of WarCraft still hasn’t made its way to consoles. ‘That’s a really big topic. The one [issue] that comes to mind is that WOW is designed for use of a mouse and a keyboard and we haven’t yet seen a console solution that lets us replicate it easily,’ he said.
He also added that the closed nature of the console space is another reason WoW on consoles is unlikely. He says ‘I suspect that we would also want to own a lot more of the back-end than most console companies would be willing to let us have,’ but the fact that they’re making money hand over fist on PCs as is means the team at Blizzard Games is quite content in their current position of dominance.
