World of Warcraft: The War Within introduces two significant new features: Delves and Follower Dungeons. These additions cater to solo players or small groups, offering accessible alternatives to traditional dungeons and raids.

Follower Dungeons: Solo Adventures in Campaign Mode

Follower Dungeons allow players to experience WoW's dungeon content solo, with AI-controlled companions filling out the party. This system, similar to Final Fantasy 14’s Duty Support, integrates seamlessly into the campaign, making dungeon runs more cohesive and narrative-driven. While it might lack the intensity of multiplayer runs, it offers a more relaxed, story-focused experience, especially for those who prefer to play at their own pace without the pressure of coordinating with other players.

Delves: The New Soloable Endgame

Delves are the real star of The War Within, providing a brand-new progression track for players who enjoy solo or small-group play. These mini-dungeons are role-agnostic, meaning you don’t need a tank or healer, and they’re designed to be completed in about 15 minutes. With 12 Delves spread across four zones and multiple configurations, they offer a variety of challenges and experiences.

The Delve system is designed for the long haul, with 11 difficulty tiers (tiers 4 and up unlocking with the start of Season 1). High-tier Delves drop gear equivalent to Mythic dungeons and normal-difficulty raid bosses, making them a viable option for endgame progression.

Why Delves Are a Game-Changer

Delves aren’t just a casual diversion; they’re a substantial addition to WoW’s endgame. They offer atmospheric, entertaining content that’s easy to fit into your day. Unlike traditional dungeons, Delves aren’t timed, so you can pause and resume as needed, making them accessible even to players with limited time.

With Delves and Follower Dungeons, Blizzard has finally provided a genuine alternative to the traditional dungeon experience for solo players, making WoW more approachable than ever. These features are likely to become a permanent part of the game, offering new ways to enjoy the rich world of Azeroth.
