World of Warcraft: The War Within has made quite the splash among players, delivering a blend of epic fantasy, quality-of-life upgrades, and a story that leaves many shouting, “WoW is back, baby!” But as with every expansion, the honeymoon phase is about to give way to the real test—the endgame content. Season 1 has officially launched, bringing with it new raids, Mythic+ dungeons, delves, and PvP rewards. The hype train has left the station, so let’s dive into the new features and see what this season has to offer.

Welcome to the Nerub-ar Palace Raid: Time to Slay Some Bugs

Every World of Warcraft expansion needs a killer raid to kick off the season, and The War Within doesn’t disappoint. The Nerub-ar Palace raid, set in the depths of a Nerubian stronghold, offers players a chance to test their mettle against terrifying bug bosses and snatch up some shiny new gear in the process.

Starting on September 11, both Normal and Heroic versions of the raid are now live, while the first wing is available for the more casual Raid Finder crowd. If you prefer diving into the story with a smaller group (or even solo!), you can also try the Story Mode, which turns the raid into a small-scale scenario for up to five players. It’s perfect for those who just want to experience the lore without the pressure of high-stakes raiding.

For the truly brave, Mythic difficulty and the second Raid Finder wing will open on September 18, with the third wing hitting on September 25. So whether you’re a seasoned raider or just dipping your toes in, there’s plenty of content to sink your sword—or staff—into.

Oh, and let’s not forget about the tier armor sets. If you’re a transmog fiend, you’ll be excited to know that the tokens for these sets are “warbound,” meaning you can send them to your alts. Blizzard, you just made collectors very happy.

Mythic+ Dungeons: The Dungeon Crawl Never Ends

Love dungeons? Hate bugs? You’re in luck. Season 1 brings with it a fresh rotation of Mythic+ dungeons. Alongside the new War Within dungeons—Ara-Kara, City of Echoes, The Stonevault, City of Threads, and The Dawnbreaker—we’re seeing the return of fan favorites from previous expansions.

The Necrotic Wake and Mists of Tirna Scithe are back from Shadowlands, Siege of Boralus returns from Battle for Azeroth, and Grim Batol from Cataclysm is here to remind you why you swore off Mythics in the first place.

The best part? The gear drops are on point. With higher Mythic+ keystones, you can snag rewards that rival those from Heroic raids, and if you’re feeling especially brave, the Great Vault will reward your efforts with Champion- and Hero-level gear. It’s a high-risk, high-reward dungeon grind that’ll keep you running those keystones long into the night.

PvP: Time to Flex Your Skills (and Your Mounts)

For the PvP players, Season 1 introduces a brand-new PvP season, complete with its own set of rewards that’ll have you queueing up for battlegrounds in no time. The season’s elite transmog set is earned piecemeal at various ranks, so if you want to look the part of a battle-hardened warrior, you better sharpen those skills.

And let’s talk about those mounts. The Vicious Skyflayer is a Nerubian bug with Horde and Alliance decor—creepy, yet oddly appealing—and the Forged Fel Bat is an absolute beast, perfect for those who prefer their mounts as menacing as their reputation in the arena.

Delves: WoW’s New “Pseudo-Dungeons”

Delves are back and they’ve leveled up. Introduced with The War Within, delves are essentially mini-dungeons that allow players to tackle various challenges with scalable difficulty. Previously capped at Tier 3, the difficulty now ramps up with Tiers 4 and above. If you’re looking for a challenge, you won’t have to wait long—community reactions suggest that anything above Tier 8 packs a punch.

The first Seasonal Delve is Zekvir’s Lair, and if you want to rock Zekvir’s spine on your back (yes, you read that right), this is your chance. Knock it over on any difficulty to earn some Nerubian fashion points, but if you manage to tackle it at Tier 5 or higher, you’ll earn the coveted “Ascension Breaker” title.

If you’re feeling extra ambitious, completing the delve solo gets you a sweet void paint for your dirigible, because nothing says “I conquered this” like a decked-out ride.

In terms of gear, delves are no slouch. According to WoWHead, delves offer Champion-level rewards starting at Tier 7, equivalent to Mythic+ keystones 2-6. Tackle higher difficulties, and you’re looking at Hero-level rewards straight from the Great Vault. It’s a great option for players who prefer small group or solo content over raids or high-level Mythics.

Will The War Within Keep Up Its Momentum?

With Season 1 live, World of Warcraft: The War Within is really starting to show what it’s made of. Between the raid, dungeons, PvP, and delves, there’s no shortage of content to dive into. The 20th anniversary of WoW is just around the corner, and the community is hoping Blizzard can keep the momentum going after what’s been a pretty positive start.

The real question is whether The War Within will deliver on its promises and keep the player base engaged for the long haul. Solid questing and a fun leveling experience are one thing, but maintaining excitement with meaningful endgame content is another.

In any case, the launch of Season 1 has injected a new wave of excitement into Azeroth, and for now, the player base seems cautiously optimistic. Whether you’re gearing up for raids, grinding through Mythic+ dungeons, or taking on PvP and delves, there’s plenty to keep you busy.

So grab your weapon, pick your adventure, and get ready to conquer The War Within’s first season. We’ll see you in Azeroth—just keep an eye out for those Nerubian bugs. They bite.
